Stay In the Know

BOT-2 covers a broad array of fine and gross motor skills, providing six composite scores and one comprehensive measure of overall motor proficiency.

Benefits

  • Assess the motor proficiency of all children, ranging from those who are typically developing to those with mild to moderate motor control problems.
  • Support diagnosis of motor impairments.
  • Screen individuals who may have certain deficits in motor ability and who might benefit from further evaluation or interventions.
  • Make educational placement decisions.
  • Develop and evaluate motor training programs.

Features

Occupational therapists, special education professionals, physical therapists, developmental adaptive physical education teachers, and other professionals use BOT assessment.

  • High-quality manipulatives (including a wide, durable balance beam); large, clear pictures in the administration easel that help children better understand the activities you are asking them to perform; and engaging, game-like tasks.

  • Separate fine motor and gross motor kits available.
  • Fine motor kit includes Fine Motor Precision, Fine Motor Integration, Manual Dexterity, and Upper-Limb Coordination subtests.

The minimum recommended interval for reassessment with the BOT-2 is 3 months or more. The test-retest data gathered during development of the BOT-2 show minimal mean differences with an average retest interval of 19-20 days, and average test score differences in the test-retest study are well below the SEms. The differences beyond 2-3 months are likely to represent developmental or skill gains, especially at lower age levels. It is very unlikely that practice effects would influence the BOT-2 scores, since it is a performance based test without a guessing component, and the items are not used for practice during the interval between tests.

In addition to the complete BOT-2 kit, the BOT-2 is also now available as separate Fine-Motor and Gross Motor Kits, with dedicated Fine-Motor and Gross-Motor forms. If you have a complete kit, and wish to obtain separate Fine-Motor and Gross Motor scores you will need the Manual Supplement for the BOT-2 Fine Motor Form and Gross Motor Form. This manual supplement is now included in the BOT-2 complete kit, but can also be purchased separately; see item 58046 (Manual Supplement for the BOT-2 Fine Motor Form and Gross Motor Form) in the pricing and ordering section of the website.

In response to customer feedback the BOT-2 is now available on Q-global® - Pearson’s web-based administration, scoring and reporting system. In line with the Assist software, unlimited scoring subscriptions are available for 1, 3, or 5 years; this is in addition to a per-report price. Please see the pricing section for full details.

Because the BOT-2 was superseded by the BOT-3 in 2024, BOT-2 Q-global reports and subscriptions ceased to be supported on February 28, 2026.
